3D Animation
The 3D animation subteam significantly contributes to the spirit of FIRST. It allows students to demonstrate their technological abilities, adding another dimension to the team. Having this option available gives a new perspective to the competitions.
Then Animation Sub-Team is composed of 3 students who contribute toward the final project. We spend a small, but equally important, portion of our time planning the storyboard. With this, we know exactly what is needed to be done when we start the animation process. Utilizing the new features of Autodesk 3DS Max 2010, we animate whatever is required. For 2010 the theme is “Change Your World”. It reads, “You have the opportunity to identify a current challenge and tell us how your idea/product/invention would change our world- for the better! It might be something that makes a positive difference in the lives of individuals, in your neighborhood, in the world at large, or- even- in space. It may save lives or make daily life easier. It may be the next best thing to clean our oceans, generate power, or sustain & steward our resources. It’s up to you. But you need to clearly state the design challenge you identify; then create a 30-second animation that communicates your solution to meeting that challenge. Of course, if robotics comes into play- that’s great, but not a requirement.” Led by a veteran, the 3D animation team is looking forward to this year’s challenge and are committed to doing their best.
Tips for Rookies:
Anyone can get involved in 3D animation. Read up on 3DS Max tutorials to get a basic understanding of the program, and then start animating basic shapes. To perfect your basic skills, you can work on the safety animation, which is not as intense as the FIRST competition animation, but just as important.
