The Mechanical Team
A message from Russ and Alex, our Mechanical group leaders:
Mechanical is responsible for assembling, manufacturing, designing, and making calculations associated with the components of the robot. We work closely with the Electrical group and the Programming group to establish our physical limitations (power, etc). We also realize we must take into account the skills and capabilities of the other groups.
What we'll make sure to do next year: We have to remember to keep everything simple. I think that was one of our problems when we first got started; trying to do everything. Stay focused, and get goals completed ASAP. We should know what we're going to accomplish before each meeting, so we don't waste precious meeting time. Because those 6 weeks will come and go like *snap*.
Advice for rookies: Don't think you can build or design anything at all. Don't let the robot get too complex, keep it simple. Also, make sure you are enjoying what you are doing. Let others design, share their feelings and thoughts about the robot, and then build. It's not just a one-person thing; everyone is interconnected within the team. And definitely don't slack off and wait until the end. Six weeks is short enough as it is. And if you don't think so yet... you will
