The Elevator Sub-Team is the bridge between the BAD and the SHOOTER. Feel free to check out the profiles of the BAD and SHOOTER. Basically, we bring the ball from the retriever and put it into the shooter. Now, how in the world do we do this? It sounds simple, right? Well, the concept is, but like everything else in FIRST robotics, it’s a tough challenge, and that’s about all I can say about the sub-team. I think you’ll be more interested in what we’ve done so far. Well, first, we have two sides to our mechanism, the stationary, which doesn’t move, and the active side. Basically, the stationary side is composed of three aluminum rods running up and down the entire elevator. These three rods are formed in a semicircle. This provides the pinch and the path for the ball to travel up. On the active side,we have a long channel, built by two long L channels. There are long strands of polycord, an orangy, rubbery substance, running up and down the channel. A motor powers the rod that the polycord is attached to, and thus, the polycord moves. When the ball enters, the stationary side pinches the ball against the moving polycord and the ball travels up. At the top, the rods bend and the ball is deposited into the shooter. The elevator is just another product of a well-oiled team. Tip for rookies: Don’t worry about a thing, We have the right people to guide you on the right track, so one day, you can be the person helping other rookies. Leaders: Noah P. and Jeff C. |
